Triangles

I spent the last several days in Houston celebrating my sister’s birthday.

As has been our habit whenever we are together, we go on “safari”.  Not with guns nor on a continent far away, but in our own backyard and armed with camera’s.

My sister is the most amazing photographer!  I, on the other hand, am learning.

We have been on safari in nature and in urban settings.  We have taken pictures of landscapes and animals and buildings.  Each time she teaches me something.  Each time I learn so much more.

We always come back to the first basic principal of photography.  Balance.

When taking pictures with a camera, you have to consider three things: Shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.

If you make an adjustment to one without also  adjusting  the others it will create a picture that is either under exposed, overexposed, blurry or just not what it should be.

Out of balance.

Balance is tricky.  It’s not good enough to just stand still.  You have to actively participate.  You have to make conscious choices based on your goal.  Just when you think you have it,  your goal changes.  Making the search for balance the exercise of a lifetime.
Much love, and Happy Birthday, Sue!
