Sandcastles

We made the trek to see an old friend this week after a long absence. We found ourselves in the presence of the ocean,

I have missed this place.  I have missed the tides and the waves and the sun and even the invasive sand.

I have been at peace in one of my most holy places.

We met some amazing artisans that create the most elaborate sand castles on the beach.

Structures that are massive by sand castle norms, and even a dragon.

The work and effort that goes into this endeavor is enormous.  They were kind enough to let Mike get water and in exchange they tolerated his questions on how and why,  best practices.

A day long endeavor and then...every evening when they go in the little “ninja’s” destroy all their hard work.

I am reminded of monks that make incredible art work using colored sand.  They toil all day creating the most amazing brightly colored pictures until they finally finish and then they erase the slate clean for the next day.

I am sure the thought of a sand castle built just for the purpose of the building will fill my mediations.  The concept of impermanence and lost attachments are part of our journey

Much love,
